Amna Chalwati is an Associate Professor of Accounting in the Department of Accounting at St. Mary’s University. She currently teaches Introduction to Financial Accounting, International Accounting, and Exploring Sustainability in the undergraduate curriculum, as well as a Ph.D. Directed Study on Voluntary Disclosure and CSR at the graduate level. Amna's research focuses on greenwashing and social washing, with an emphasis on financial market forces and institutions, as well as CEO traits. Her work has been published in leading academic journals, including the Journal of Banking and Finance (JBF), China Accounting and Finance Review (CAFR), and The Journal of Theoretical Accounting Research (JTAR).

Holding a Ph.D. from Hong Kong Polytechnic University and an M.Sc. in Accounting from Manouba University, Tunisia, Amna has a robust academic background. Currently, Amna serves as a senior consultant for the Global Initiative for Governance and Sustainability (GIGS). In this role, she offers expert advice and devises strategies for governments, NGOs, and international organizations to implement sustainable governance practices, including the development of frameworks and guidelines that adhere to global žžžÑÐϰËù standards.

 

Dr. Chalwati’s research interests include greenwashing, social-washing strategies, corporate social responsibility, corporate governance mechanisms, voluntary disclosures, and ESG reporting quality.
